What Does it take to Host a Church Safety Seminar?

We desire to make hosting a church safety seminar as easy as possible. Hopefully, the following Q&A will answer your questions. If you have questions, call 817-437-9693.

  • QUESTION -Who does the presentation?

  • ANSWER - Jimmy Meeks. Jimmy is a 35-year retired police officer and former Crime Prevention Specialist. He has conducted about 500 church safety seminars in 40 states. He has been a minister for over 50 years.

  • QUESTION - How much does it cost to host a seminar?

  • ANSWER - $2500. From this, Jimmy will pay all of his expenses (travel, lodging, and food).

  • QUESTION - How is the seminar funded?

  • ANSWER - The hosting church agrees to pay the 2500. However… we prefer that all attendees register and purchase a ticket to the seminar. The cost is usually between 25 and 35 dollars. We ask the church to provide whatever amount is left to bring the total to 2500. Thus, if we collect 2000 dollars in ticket sales, we ask the church to donate 500 dollars. NOTE: it usually works better if attendees have to purchase their own ticket.

  • QUESTION - Can our church just provide the 2500 dollars and not charge to attend?

  • ANSWER- Yes. We have done that on several occasions.

  • QUESTION - is the price negotiable?

  • ANSWER - Yes. If your church is close to the Dallas/Ft Worth metroplex, we can discuss a lower price. If your church in IN the Dallas/Ft Worth area, we can conduct the seminar for about 500 dollars. Please know that we have no desire to be a financial burden to any church.

  • QUESTION - What day of the week is the seminar held on?

  • ANSWER - We have conducted seminars on …

    • Weeknights from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 or 9:30

    • Saturday mornings 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. (the majority of our seminars are on Saturday mornings)

    • Sunday afternoons 2:00 p.m. - 5:00

We schedule the seminar based on what the host location (church) decides.

  • QUESTION - What are the media needs?

  • ANSWER - JImmy needs the following for his presentation:

    • A lapel that he can wear (not a hand-held microphone)

    • Jimmy presents in PowerPoint format. Thus, he needs to be able to hook his Macbook to a projector

    • Jimmy must have the ability to advance his slides (all slides are timed and have to be advanced by Jimmy)

  • QUESTION - How do we advertise the event?

  • ANSWER - We have an entire webpage devoted to that question. Click here to go there. When you get to that page, be sure and download the PDF format of that page (so you can print it out)

  • QUESTION - What about breakfast or lunch?

  • ANSWER - We believe (and have learned) that it is much better to not provide a lunch or breakfast.

    • If the seminar is on Saturday morning (and most are), we start at 8:30 a.m. so people can eat before they come. We end by 12:30 so they can go to lunch.

    • Having to be concerned about feeding attendees takes away the energy needed to advertise the event. Remember: our topic is very serious (we are trying to save lives!), thus we hope that the hosting church will focus on the promotion of the event.

    • Almost all churches will have a snack of some sort if the seminar is on Saturday morning (and coffee!).

    • If you insist on serving breakfast or lunch, that’s fine with us. We will advertise that you intend to do so. It is totally up to you!

  • QUESTION - Do you conduct seminars online?

  • ANSWER - Yes, and we can negotiate a price (much lower than 2500 dollars).
