The parents soon learned what had happened. A man brought his son to church; the son was a sex offender. He sexually assaulted the little girl while she was away from her parents.
We have conducted hundreds of seminars since May of 2009. And we have been warning churches for years that violence would soon enter our sanctuaries and houses of worship. For many churches, the tragedy in Sutherland Springs, Texas was a wake-up call: 27 shot dead and 20 more wounded.
But there is another crime that happens, or is at least reported, daily, that is often overlooked: sex crimes.
Some reports indicate that there may be as many as a dozen sex crimes reported every day that took place in a church-related setting.
And often times the accused is someone who works with young people.
I (Jimmy Meeks) have been pleading (begging, actually) with youth directors and youth workers to attend the Sheepdog Seminar. I have had VERY LITTLE success in my appeal. My message has often fallen on deaf ears.
I know they care; I know they are concerned; and the thought of a sex crime on their grounds is, in their mind, a despicable act.
But I need your help. I need you to help by attending this seminar and learning what needs to be done to prevent these atrocious crimes that devastate our children.
And I need you - YOUTH WORKER - to help me get others to attend.

In Oklahoma, at a Wednesday night church meeting, the leaders dimmed the lights so the children could watch a movie. A few minutes later, one of the leaders noticed that a 20-year old male volunteer had slipped his hand up the dress of one of the girls. Long story short: the lights were turned on and the culprit found himself in jail soon thereafter. According to court documents, he forced a 4-year-old girl to sit on his lap Monday while a movie played in the child care area.
But the story doesn’t stop there...
At the jail he confessed to having molested at least 9 more children, including the children of the pastor and his wife. When the mother heard the details of the assault, she vomited on the floor.
Unfortunately, I could go on and on with these stories.
